Who we are

The Steel City Flying Surfboard Team was organized in 2025 as a group of local enthusiasts came together to share their love of the sport. The team has held over 50 awareness events from the “Relax and Unwind” houseboat (HQ) on Pittsburgh’s “North Shore”. Indeed “HQ” with its “Steel City Flying Surfboard Team” banners is a North Shore fixture during summer months. Follow us on Instagram with the link below. 

Joe (Flying Troy)

Visionary and founder of the Steel City Flying surfboard Team, Joe hopped aboard an e-foil and never looked back. Joe has introduced countless others to the sport.   If Joe seems familiar, its possible you have seen his interview by national and local celebrities or his appearance with Jason Kelce on ESPN.  A perpetual fan favorite, today, Joe honors another flying legend, Pittsburgh Steeler Troy Polamalu, Joe is flying a blue Lift Crusier model.

Jill (Style, Energy, Team Heart)

She is the driving force behind the team, always looking to take the team to new heights! Although relatively new to the sport, Jill rocks the Pittsburgh surf scene. Known for her business savvy and fashion sense, she styles the team in addition to giving flight to founder Joe’s visions. Her love for her boat, Isaiah, shines through her beautiful smile and fun-loving ways. Go Jill!

Carol (Queen of the Three Rivers!)

Carol is by far, the star of the women’s team! She has been flying high above our Three Rivers since 2023 and has appeared in the NFL Films first-ever IMAX movie, the Football Town! Carol is flying high on her “Red Rocket” a Lift Sport model.

Jeff (High Lines, Tight Turns)

Entrepreneur and adventurer, ”Pittsburgh e-foil” co-founder, brought the sport to the ‘Burgh in 2022. There’s a reason he is on the first string of our lineup today. You’ll see him carving tight turns and flying high on a lime green Lift ”Pro” Board equipped with a 34” mast and foldable prop. Jeff brings athleticism and daring to foiling. When not surfing he can be found leading e-bike tours or teaching others to surf. 

Adam (Burgh Foil Pioneer)

Founder of ASR and along with Jeff, he’s the other co-founder of ”Pittsburgh e-foil”, and together they brought the sport to the ‘Burgh in 2022. Adam has been one of the top riders in the city and always on the first string of our lineup.

Courtney - (Chef, Rider, Team Photographer) In addition to cutting a fine line on the boards, Courtney is a Culinary expert and the official team photographer. When not flying, Courtney can be found Fueling the team with her delicious burghers and oatmeal cookies.

Suze -(Born to Fly) An astronaut in another time, Suzetta has a natural affinity for flying. She splashed down on the Allegheny with her lime green e-foil board in August 2024. She can be found flying over “The Mon” near Sandcastle water park and her Southside home marina on sunny days!

Mye - (Doctor by Day , Rider Always) Adrenaline junkie by choice. Mye loves anything that balances speed, control and a little bit of danger! When she’s not flying above the river on her e-foil, she’s ripping along Pittsburgh’s riverwalk on her One-wheel searching for the challenge. Known for her fearless energy and determination to master new board sports, she brings a competitive spirit and a lot of laughs to the Steel City Flying Surfboard Team. You’ll often hear her coach yelling “Be careful on the concrete, we need you!”

Kyle - (Steel City Waterman) One of the top athletes in the city, Kyle has a boatload of experience in official water sports events as he was a star in the former water ski shows during the Pittsburgh Regatta days!!

Craig-o (Smoothest Ride on the River) It has been said that when Craig flies his board It is level and smooth enough to keep a marble from rolling off.  That might be an exaggeration you can judge for yourself as you watch Craig fly and prepare to be impressed! Craig has appeared on numerous Pirates Telecasts

Teresa & Chris Mac - (Wake Roots, Foil Future) - Husband and wife team, Teresa and Chris are talented wakeboard, wake surfers and e-foilers. With those genetics it will be interesting to see what their cute kid does in a few years!

Becky & Kyle - (Champion Bloodline) - Another husband and wife team, Becky is former National and World Champion wakeboard, who traveled the country for a number of years, exciting crowds in the Midwestern states, Texas California and Florida! Kyle has excelled at all water sports including wakeboarding, wake surfing and e-foiling, as well as an excellent downhill ski racer and trick master! With those genetics, their little guy will be part of the next generation of star riders for our team in just a few years!

Drew - (If it Flies, Drew Rides) Whether piloting a jet airplane, flying an air chair, wakeboarding high above the wake or flying down on skis from the top of the mountain, he loves the air. He loves to fly just as high on an e-foil! You can’t miss Drew, just look up!

Jack - (Fearless Across Air and Water) Jack is basically a super athlete! Whether doing flips on a wakeboard, chasing to surf the monster ocean waves when the hurricanes are coming or getting dropped off by helicopter on the top of the ski mountain, his next goal is to be the fastest e-foiler on our rivers!

Dillion -(Grace, Precision, No Falls) another wakeboarder and wake surfer, his expertise is putting on a show for the crowd. His grace and precision are unmatched as the guy just never falls!

Breanna and Pablo -(Boards, BBQ and Arm Bars) A true power couple with serious balance and grappling skills. When they’re not flying across the water on their boards, they’re carving the riverwalk on One-wheels or sharpening their Brazilian Jui-jitsu game on the mats. Breanna’s energy and Pablo’s quite intensity make them a force wherever they show up. Just remember - if the boards come off, the arm bars might come out!

Andy - (Calm Style, Always Riding) Always up for the next adventure, Andy brings focus, determination, and a love of the water to the team. Whether he’s flying above the water on his e-foil or carving the riverwalk on his One-wheel, he rides with calm confidence and a steady style, that makes it look easy. Andy is always working on the next skill and rarely misses a chance to ride. Rumor has it he’s already checking wind conditions before most people finish their morning coffee.

Julie - (Ski Power meets Foil) Although new to e-foiling Julie has picked up the sport quickly due to her years of expert downhill skiing.
